The Game

I’d like to examine the philosophy around what a lifetime, in human terms, can really mean…

The vast universe, seemingly beyond measurement, offers unlimited potential to any sort of organizing intent, with or without consciousness. We see this from within the tiniest of cells that bind and define our physical form, to the solar system within which we live, to the galaxy we know as “Milky Way” and beyond. Everything in the micro, is mirrored in the macro, in an uncanny interplay within an apparent perfect symmetry.

How do we really quantify what it means to “be born” into this shape that we are? If our existence is based on millions, and billions of years of making and remaking, evolving and emerging, then how does one human lifetime have any significance? I would say that it does, and doesn’t.

In a spiritual and emotional sense, it certainly matters, especially within the definition of family units, friends, and co-creators who exist during the lifetime that one soul chooses to be here for. In a metaphysical, or quantum physical sense, there isn’t really a “being born” at all, but rather a change in form and definition of energy and vibration that is ever-present, and ultimately inseparable. The purpose of this is for the “all” to experience an expansion or unfoldment in continuity with the larger ongoing expansion that apparently started with a “big bang”.

Given these conditions, why then, if a being such as we are, emerges from a source, or the everything, and is never truly disconnected, is “life so hard”? If we’re here to expand and evolve from those who came before us, why intentionally forget who and what we are? Spiritual growth is great and all, but it seems a curious form of self-imposed dysfunction, the purpose of which isn’t always clear to me.

The mystics and mentors have many methods with which to access and open the portals into this knowing. You have tarot, angels, past-life regression, hypnosis, meditation, astrology, numerology, etc., all with distinct, yet complementary vessels to gain understanding, or ultimately a remembrance of what lies beneath, and in between. There are others who believe that we are on this planet strictly for spiritual growth, and that forces far beyond our capabilities “protect” us, enabling the continuing existence of our fair Earth, as well as propagation of our species.

That, to me, seems rather demeaning in a way, and doesn’t resonate. It implies that we don’t really have any original omnipotent position and potential, whether in the physical, or not. It also presupposes that humanity is at a certain disadvantage at this point in time, and needs some form of guardianship and guidance as we work our way out of a supposed “falling from grace”. That idea seems far too primitive from my standpoint, and doesn’t calculate, given the vast field of intelligence from whence we came.

So, therein lies “the game” I interpret it to be. If it is our collective intention to grow, expand, evolve and become enlightened, what’s with all this ridiculous chaos and darkness, maligned ego and ignorance permeating our conscious experience? We have cultures and societies stuck in the distant past, while others are speeding toward the future. We have, what I observe to be, an underlying adolescence that keeps us at a near standstill, as far as embracing any true, unifying and universal potential is concerned. So what then is the real purpose of it all?

Is it impossible to evolve without a contrast with which to base a true desire or destination? Must there be a black, in order to know or differentiate the white? Apparently so. And if that is the case, then the answer to virtually all of our questions, at any given moment is simple… Yes!

Regardless of any choice, there will be an outcome and effect that you caused into existence simply by asking. Therefore, one could say there is no “right” and “wrong”, “good” or “bad”, ever! There is no better way, there is only another way. What’s better or worse gets defined within the parameters of a culture or societal understanding, and is dynamic, forever evolving and adapting to the collective demands of what is in the now.

Those in “powerful” positions must understand this and salivate at the chance to manipulate an audience of ignorant minds. But, now you are aware of this. The eye altering, alters all. Thus, every individual has the power to completely influence their existence and experience. Collectively, it is no different. The locus of original intent can gain momentum and shift all of reality along with it, if we can “get along” as it were. There, then, is the underlying grace and ease with which you can live your life.

You are not simply the superficial body and person you perceive yourself as, for the most part. You are intrinsically intertwined as a co-creator and co-publisher of this chapter in our collective existence. Your move.

Going Through the Opening

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

This is a place I feel familiar with lately, and I’m sure many can relate.

There’s a natural process in our lives that goes by many names. Much like our individual cells go through transformation and die, being replaced by the new, updated version, aspects of our personalities, spirituality, character and such also “die” and we are born into a new experience, expanding on what and where we were before. But it certainly doesn’t always feel like we’re getting anywhere…

If you base your self-assessment on what you see in front of you, what you are currently experiencing, then you might not be seeing much of the bigger picture. With every step forward, as ever, the growth and understanding reverberates out and everywhere around you. Subtle changes happen all the time, and even with every thought. However, just as one can build a callous on their finger from continuous guitar playing, you build beliefs and define perceptions.

If, say, for the past 10, 20, or 30 years you’ve observed and understood something in a certain way, it’s pretty much set in your DNA. Now, say you’ve come to a realization about whatever it may be, have that “ah ha!” moment, and are forever changed in this regard. You start to see things differently, but frustratingly, much of your life remains exactly the same! That’s madness, so why bother?

Simply put, without patience and perseverance, no new beliefs (and thus experiences, manifestations, awareness, etc.) will ever take hold, if it is your intention to do so. The energies that surround your experience thus far are a sum of all that you have been and done from day one. You may have some energetic blockages within and without, and those will continue to underlie what you experience with your senses, day to day, until you make that concerted, focused effort to shift it, release it, and let it go. As you’ve probably heard, in various ways before, there’s no good or bad energy… It’s all just energy, and really up to you what to do with it.

Give yourself credit for how far you have come. Don’t discount the little achievements, but don’t also keep score. If you’re temporarily stuck in a dark space, be in that space fully, and go through it. For you wouldn’t know or understand it as “dark” without the light that completely surrounds it. –tb

Going Through the Opening
Contracting before Expanding

Sometimes our lives contract before they expand. We may be working hard on ourselves spiritually, doing good in the world, following our dreams, and wondering why we are still facing constrictions of all kinds—financial, emotional, physical. Perhaps we even feel as if we’ve lost our spirituality and are stuck in a dark room with no windows. We may be confused and discouraged by what appears to be a lack of progress. But sometimes this is the way things work. Like a caterpillar that confines itself to a tiny cocoon before it grows wings and flies, we are experiencing the darkness before the dawn.

When things feel tight, it’s easy to panic or want to act in some way to ease the feeling of constriction. We might also spin our wheels mentally, trying to understand why things are the way they are. However, there is nothing we need to do at this time other than to be patient and persevering. We can cling to the awareness that we are processing the shift from one stage to another, and the more we surrender to the experience, the more quickly we will move through the tightness into the opening on the other side. Just like a baby making its way down the birth canal, we may feel squeezed and pushed and very uncomfortable, but if we remember that we are on our way to being born into a new reality, we will find the strength to carry on.

Even as we endure the contractions, we can find peace within ourselves if we remember to trust the universe. We can look to the natural world for inspiration as we see that all beings surrender to the process of being born. In that surrender, and in the center of our own hearts, is a willingness to trust in the unknown as we make our way through the opening.

When I Was Your Age…

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

… I had to hike 10 miles to school, through snow 6 feet deep, uphill both ways… with no shoes.

There’s something to be said about generations past and the contrast and transition to the next.

I was having dinner with my Dad last night, and he stated, rather matter-of-factly: “You never know when it’s gonna happen…” with regards to relationships. He went on to wax-nostalgic about how he and my mother crossed paths and began their shared journey. And it made me pause for a moment as the realization set in. We really don’t have control over timeframes in life. We conjure the desire or dream a fanciful dream, but how and when it’ll come to pass is generally out of our hands.

I think there’s a great release in that sentiment.

Our parents and grandparents lived through very different societal pressures, political climates, employment standards, and even family structures. While on some levels we’ll often clash and miscommunicate, our elders inevitably offer unexpected sage advice and golden nuggets that one can only learn from living life, and being around a good deal longer than you have.

Every generation is born with the past evolutions in their non-physical toolkit. What I mean by that, is that when you “die”, returning to the source and space from whence you came, you take with you the essence, influence, impulse, intentions, awareness and such (contrasts/desires), adding to the greater expansion of all of what we’re part of. So it would naturally follow that every child born has availed itself of that greater knowledge, allowing for even further growth, understanding, and expansion for this and the next generation.

In this physical experience, we mimic and condition habits, beliefs, and limitations based on our birthplace, education, and countless influences that happen across our path as we live out our lives. In this generation, we live in a time where a lot of these old concepts are being thrown to the curb, recycled, and redesigned.

There is a great upheaval and awakening that is creating a swell of chaos (economy, politics, “wars” and such) as we push through into the next best version of consciousness on this planet. We’re not believing everything the media says, and we’re communicating across the globe like never before. Slowly, a unity emerges. But of course, there is great resistance to change, especially from those who have enjoyed generations of the “status quo”. I don’t want to get into conspiracy theories, but we all feel intuitively that there are forces at work who love to keep messing things up, recreating fear and divisions within cultures and countries as often as possible… Don’t believe the hype.

That being said, humanity has an insatiable curiosity and desire for expansion, evolution and greater fulfillment, every go ’round. For example, our parents want more for us, and a better life, than perhaps they had for themselves. Our societies, cities, organizations and governments are in a constant state of flux, contrast, and expansion. Keep going outward and into the wider perspective, and the universe reveals itself.

So it is inevitable that we learn from those who came before us. It is also inevitable that we’ll never know it all, figure it all out, and get it done. But taking the grander point of view, our descendants will benefit from what we are being, doing and having, right now, just as we are living in the latest edition of what those created before us.
