Wander: Real Me

“Real Me” is the 3rd track from the original Wander album. It’s on Gypsy Butterfly’s Diversity…Now album as well. The “Acoustic Mix” is also featured on the album. A remix, dubbed “The Fantabulous Mix” is featured on the Wander… Another Path record, as well as the Blackman & the Butterfly EP Strange Daze.

This was the first co-written song I’d added to an album. It ended up in the blend because it’s a good song, and it fits the theme of uprooting old hurts to continue the personal growth journey.

Fellow WP artist, and good friend Carly Thomas (aka Gypsy Butterfly) handed me lyrics she’d written one evening. A half-hour or so later, I’d written the music for it. Then, we performed it together. I wouldn’t say that I made it my song, but I helped finish an idea that just needed a new ship with which to sail into broader waters.

The song is about going through hardships, such as a bad relationship, or other personal struggles, and coming into one’s own truth, strengths, and path in life. It’s about realizing that you really are good enough just being who and what you are. It’s OK to follow your heart, be true to yourself, and trust that life will provide what you need along the way. It’s about healing and knowing that the universe has “got your back,” so to speak.

And, it’s catchy. :) Feel free to sing along…

Real Me
by Trance Blackman & Gypsy Butterfly

I was trying to find my own place
Wondering where I’d fit in
Playing your game didn’t work for me
So I made my own rules to win

A small child with such big dreams
Lost in a world of fear
No one to come stand beside me
To show me that they believed

Now I believe…

CHORUS
I was good enough just being me
Who I was and what was inside
Good enough just being me
And that’s something you just couldn’t see
The real me
Oh, the real me…

An angel came and touched my pain
Showing me someone cared
Leaving a life far behind me
That no one even seemed to share

Now I compare…

CHORUS
Inst. Break

Good enough…
Yes I am good enough…

CHORUS

I’m good enough just being me
Who I am and what is inside
I’m good enough just being me
And it’s something I want the world to see
Yeah, the real me
Yeah, the real me
Oh, the real me
